Dilling Group Hosts 2019 Indiana Region 1 SkillsUSA Competition

Dilling Group Inc. (DGI) was proud to host the 2020 Region 1 Indiana SkillsUSA Regional Welding and Team Welding Fabrication Competitions at our Logansport IN Training Center on Saturday, February 15th, 2020. There were 18 competitors in the Individual Welding and 2 teams of 3 in the Welding Fabrication event. Judging was performed by our Dilling Group Certified Weld Inspectors (CWI’s).

The top 5 winners in the individual welding contest and the top 2 teams in the welding fabrication contest will advance to the State Competition in Indianapolis on April 17 and 18.

The top 5 Individuals moving on are:

108 – Rowland “Levi” Morgan – Elkhart ACC
119 – Jake Smith – Starke Co
116 – Chilton Sullivan – Starke Co
114 – Owen Bogathy – Lowell High School
105 – Antoinette Ulrich – Hammond ACC

The top 2 teams in Welding Fabrication moving on to the State competition are:

Team 2 (b) – Starke Co
Reese Keaton
Colton Back
Koy Wagner

State winners are awarded various prizes and scholarships and then move on to the National Competition this summer in Louisville KY.

The need for a well-trained, skilled trade workforce has become critical and DGI is committed to developing young people for a fulfilling career in the industrial construction and maintenance fields. Our partners in this event were: Milwaukee Tools, MacAllister Rentals, Weldstar, Alro Steel, Total Tool and Indiana Oxygen, who provided essential services and sponsorship and are much appreciated for their effort.

DGI Project Manager for the event, Dan Angle, commented that “this was definitely a team effort from our sponsors to our employees. We enjoyed having the students compete at our shop and look forward to seeing where their next career steps will take them”.

DGI President, Eric Ott, said: “This is a wonderful program that brings awareness to young people of the value and importance of the skills trades. We hope to see many of these young men and women working “in the field” after graduation.”

SkillsUSA’s mission is to empower its members to become world-class workers, leaders, and responsible American citizens.
